So much has been going on, I can't believe it has taken me so long to update the blog. Well, actually, I can ..... Anyway, Bebe is doing great. She is 7 pounds, 6 ounces, with a large head, possibly with hair. Since she is now considered term, she might come any day now. In case she takes her sweet precious time, we have an induction scheduled for Friday, May 2. We debated whether an induction would be a good thing to do with baby #1, but it has relieved some of my anxiety about knowing when I am actually in labor, as opposed to being sent home from the hospital multiple times. Plus, I really don't want to go past my due date as big as she is!
I am afraid I am not faring as well as Bebe. I am doing okay, I've just had a few things crop up the last few weeks that Dr. Fields is keeping an eye on. I feel fortunate to have made it to 9 months with relatively few problems. My blood pressure has become an issue. I had a scare week before last, which resulted in 4 days of bedrest. That seemed to help, though it is still running a tad high. I am not on bedrest now, just "limited activity". They have also discovered that my platelet count is low. Depleting platelets is normal during pregnancy, but if they get too low, I can't have an epidural. Yikes! My 2 options would be to deliver her naturally or deliver her via c-section (or sicilian section, as Jerry Lee calls it) under general anesthesia. How in the world could I make that decision if I had to?!?
At any rate, Dr. Fields doesn't think we'll make it to the 2nd. If either the blood pressure or the platelet count becomes a concern, I'll get induced right away. I hate to sound pessimistic, but I truly believe its only a matter of time. I'm kind of thinking that she may make an appearance early next week after my Monday doctors appointment. We'll see.
For some good news, we are ready to bring her home whenever. Our new kitchen flooring is being installed as I type, and that is the last major house project. In the past few weeks, Steve has put together a crib, a glider, a stroller, a pack and play, a high chair, and a swing. He also installed a ceiling fan with a dimmer in Bebe's room, and painted stripes on her walls. A regular Bob Vila! He has also cleaned out our garage, made trips to Goodwill, and done numerous loads of laundry and dishes. All while doing his regular job! He has been great!!
Many prayers are needed now. I'm not anxious about the delivery itself, I'm just anxious about my blood pressure (which doesn't help when you are constantly taking it!) It's hard to know when you need to call the doctor, and when you are just being paranoid. We almost called last night, but it was thankfully down this morning. I know they won't let my platelet count get too low, so thats not as big of a concern. Mondays visit will be most telling!
