News from the front . . . . update one

Good morning . . . . I'll be playing the role of guest blogger (this is Steve):

We got to St. Mary's last night about 9:00. They started Amy on an IV bag and some other drug I don't know how to pronounce much less spell to get the party started. It was a long night as neither Amy or I could get comfortable to sleep . . . . oh well dems the breaks right?

At 6:20 this morning Dr. Fields came and broke Amy's water. She was 1cm dialated at the time and about 50% efaced (sp?). The contractions soon followed. As of 11:30 the contractions have become more frequent and more intense. So far Amy is doing her best Laura Ingles Wilder impression and pretending we are in the pioneer days by refusing the epidural. She is now 75% efaced and 1.5cm dialated. I suspect when Dr. Fields checks back in with us at Noon he will be bringing "the good stuff" with him. The nurses and the rest of the staff have been outstanding tending to Amy's every need although she is not complaining much.

All grandparents to be are here providing support. Connie and Jerry Lee helped us get settled in last night while Gil and Judy traveled back from West Tennessee. Connie and JL left around 11:30 last night to head home for a few hours of shut-eye although Jerry said he was so amped up he could have mowed the yard had the sun been out. Gil and Judy checked in around midnight last night and then went back to our house for "rest". They came back to St. Mary's at 6:30 this morning . . . . we are all ready for the long haul. It will be a long day . . . . but a BLESSED DAY!

I'll do my best to update more throughout the day. I'm even going to try and post a picture or two. I'm still not totally convinced this internet thing is going to take off . . . .
